Justin Fields is here to stay.

The most rushing yards by a quarterback in a regular season game in NFL history. That's the record Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields broke on Sunday after scrambling for 178 yards. That’s not the only record he broke though. He also became the first player in NFL history to record 3 or more passing touchdowns and 140 or more rushing yards. To go along with his two new records, he also boasted a 95.3 QBR, the second highest of any quarterback in the 2022 NFL season.

Fields’ impressive performance against the Dolphins is not a one hit wonder situation. Over the last five games he has put up a stellar 11-2 TD-INT ratio, 1,306 total yards and a 100.5 rating. Despite the lack of attention from the media, Fields has repeatedly shown flashes of greatness and he finally put it all together into a complete act. Following the game, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus wrote, “The Chicago Bears signal-caller continues to look like the most consistent quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft class,” and he is absolutely right. At times guys like Trevor Lawrence, Trey Lance, and Zach Wilson have received continuous love from the masses, while Justin Fields is the only one of the bunch who has consistently improved week to week. Well, after Fields’ videogame-like statline, he received the love too. Timelines were flooded with posts from every sports news outlet one can think of. Even the official NFL Twitter account chimed in by saying “So much speed.” with a video of Fields’ incredible 61 yard touchdown run.

The Bottom Line

The league has been put on notice. Justin Fields has game-breaking speed to pair with his immense arm talent and that was put on display for all to see. Don’t be surprised when he continues to dominate and move up the line in the NFL quarterback hierarchy.
